I try to throw amazing parties for my kids birthdays every year. This takes quite a bit of time, energy and money. We decided together that the final party would be for their 16th birthday. This was also to be a surprise party for them, as in they don't know when or what they are doing. As a result I spent a year planning what E would think was the ultimate party. We ended up renting a Cadillac Navigator limousine. Her colors were hot pink and black. I hired her friend to dj for the party that was to follow the events of the afternoon. Her friends all met at our house, donned their shirts and got in the limo. We then picked E up at her school and totally surprised her. She was taken back so far that she started to cry! From there we had four (her favorite number) challenges that the kids did, with sweet lollipop prizes. The first was a slushie drink off at Sonic. Several brain freezes later we had a winning team. The second was to run up and down the Rock. The third was to find a unique flower at Michael's. The fourth was to put sixteen pictures of E from birth to present in chronological order. Following those challenges they all came back to our house for dancing, food (Chic Fil A) and Cold Stone ice cream cake. She had an incredible time with her friends and said that it was her ultimate party!
That same week we had the driver's license test. She was totally stressed and unfortunately didn't pass her first time through. She was devastated. I contacted the driving school and we set up another go. She passed it with flying colors the second time and E was given the keys to the CR-V. She hasn't stopped driving since!
Easter was a fun celebration this year, although some of our normal traditions were waylaid. We colored eggs with E's BFF, S, since she doesn't get to do it at home. B had her Easter celebration at school as well, since she attends a Christian school. It was nice to celebrate Christ and have her learn the true meaning of Easter at her school as well as at home. We had our resurrection rolls in the morning after doing the hunt that the Easter Bunny left. This year he made puzzles and hid each piece in a different egg. After they put the puzzle together it reveled the location of their baskets. We went to church and then off to my parents for our family Easter celebration. Nanna and Grandpa hid tons of nests outside full of candy and fun prizes. We had a yummy dinner and then went home. It was a full day mixed with the wonder of the sacrifice that our Savior made for us and the love of family.
E and S also went to another Sweet Sixteen which was a masquerade ball. They dressed up and had a great time.
M started track this month as well. He isn't the best runner, but determinedly ran each of the events. He was finally put into the events that he really wanted to do, shot-put and discus. He uses his strength to really throw, and now wants his own so that he can get better at home. We also realized this month that he was struggling with things that didn't seem right and began to ease him off of his asthma medications. He was having pain and eating issues. As he went down on dosage until he went completely off of them, his issues went away. We are so grateful for the inspiration that helped him to feel better.
B also had her first "save the world' moment. Some kids in the neighborhood decided that they were going to raise money for the local food bank. They sold lip balm on the corner for several hours, with B holding up a sign. They raised $23 and felt really good about giving back.
B started her soccer this month as well. She was so excited to play and loves to kick the ball. She is definitely not competitive though as she waits for the ball to come to her instead of taking it away. She almost dances down the field instead of running. It is pretty cute watching her though!
