February 2013

So this month was totally filled with all kinds of fun. We started the month by celebrating Chinese New Year, the year of the snake. J was able to join my family including Nanna and Grandpa, with my sister and nephews. We had yummy food, a fun snake puppet show and fireworks.

That same week on Tuesday we celebrated Fat Tuesday in Mardi Gras. We had J come join us and ate cajun food, a king's cake and watched the Princess and the Frog.

Thursday was Valentine's Day. T totally surprised me with an abundance of flowers and presents! J rocked it with 12 long stem roses, three balloons, a box of chocolates and a totally decked out car for E. She was so excited! M invited his valentine, S who he bought a monkey and rose for, to join all of us for our traditional dinner, so we all had our favorite people with us. We had heart shaped pizza, bread sticks, and cake as well as I made heart shaped tomatoes to go in the salad. I even made floats for everyone complete with a licorice straw. Early I went into B's class for her party. I styled her hair with an idea from pinterest that ended up super cute. She had fun with her friends and all the yummy food! We finished the night by watching Charlie Brown's Valentine and then Valentine's Day for the bigger kids. It was a great day of love and like!

That weekend T and I celebrated our 19th wedding anniversary by going away to Estes Park for the weekend. We got a nice hotel and watched movies, ate good food and toured the haunted Stanley Hotel. We drove around in the town and generally enjoyed being together. It was great for us to get some time to ourselves and remember why we love each other so much.

We got to get together with one of B's fellow Chinese friends that we met on our trip over there.  They haven't seen each other for years and picked right up again.

The next day was the Academy Awards.  We decided to celebrate this at home with a few friends.  Unfortunately there was a huge snowstorm that day.  It was bad enough that they cancelled church.  J tried to get here from his house, but half way decided it was too slick.  He headed back and told my sad daughter that he couldn't make it.  They ended up texting to each other, but were both disappointed.   M's girlfriend S lives in the neighborhood, so we were able to get her over here.  We had lots of fun food and a contest to see who could get the most right.  T and I tied although B was a close second!  It was nice to have something fun planned even though we were snowed in.

Hopefully March will be a little less busy, although it isn't looking like it...
