March 2013

Wow what a month March was. We started off by celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday with a Seussical breakfast of green eggs and ham, toast butter side down and moose juice.  Poor B got the stomach flu and wasn't able to enjoy it with us.

E was in her (probably last) high school musical, 'Anything Goes'. She spent a lot of time singing and tap dancing. She was able to be with a lot of her friends and that made it really fun. What a ride her theater experience has been. I was fun and she learned a lot about who she is and what she wants from life.

B had her conferences and we learned that she is reading over a year ahead of her grade. She is doing well in math now too and her writing is also advanced. I'm glad that we gave her the early schooling that we did. It was a little tough for her last year, but worth it in that she has taken off this year.

E had another choir concert. This time her boyfriend J surprised her by coming. I think that made a big difference. She was much more smiley at this one!

We celebrated St. Patrick's day with our traditional Irish dinner of fish and chips. I made Irish Soda Bread this year and it was a big hit. The leprechaun came and visited the next morning and left a few treats for the kids.

M was one of forty students chosen at his school to go on an east coast trip to Washington DC and New York City. He raised $800 of the trip himself and had five days of incredible experiences. They went to all the memorials in DC. They saw the capitol, the national archives, Smithsonian, the Unknown Soldier, Arlington and even Mount Vernon. They got on a bus and went to NYC. They stayed in a hotel right in Times Square. They took a harbor cruise to see the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. They were closed due to hurricane Sandy, but they got to see them. They saw the 9/11 memorial, Wall Street and shopped on 5th avenue. They even went to see the Broadway show 'Newsies'. E was pretty jealous of that one! He said they walked a ton but it was a great trip. I know it is one that he will remember for the rest of his life.

Easter was all crammed into a very busy weekend. Friday we colored eggs and had peanut butter, chocolate eggs. Saturday B and Dad went off to a helicopter egg drop hunt and came back with a stuffed duck! That afternoon I went with them to our neighborhood Eggstravaganza. B filled her basket to the top! She got to see the Easter Bunny and even Po the Panda. We had our Passover dinner that night and talked about all the symbols of Christ and His sacrifice for us. We played games in candlelight and went to bed. The Easter Bunny gave the kids an egg hunt where they had to put in order the pictures and scriptures from the last week of Christ's life. At the end they all got a big prize. The Easter Bunny got some super good deals and so the presents were bigger than normal this year. B got a car, M got a TV and E got a fireplace for her new re-decorated room (her birthday present). We had our resurrection rolls and went off to church. After church we went to Nanna and Grandpa's house for Easter dinner and another egg hunt! It was a very fun, very busy weekend, that still put the focus on our Savior and His love and sacrifice for us. We truly are blessed.
