Mesa Verde and the Four Corners

We started our second day down at the four corners. It was under construction so we couldn't get the classic photo of the kids in four states at the same time. What we did instead was shop at the Navajo market and take pictures of each of the kids in different states. This was on the reservation and was pretty barren. It had some beautiful rock formations though and a unique beauty all it's own.Boo in Arizona.Gem in New Mexico.LM in Utah.Next we went to Mesa Verde. It is a national park that had so many ruins of the Anasazi people. It was amazing how they built these entire cities inside of caves on the side of cliffs. What an amazing history! We had my parents with us to enjoy this time together. My dad came here when he was young, and my mom had never been here. This was down in a Kiva. This is the spiritual place down in the ground where they received their visions. These were Hopi dancers putting on a performance on the edge of the cliffs. It was so hot that I felt bad for the kids in their heavy costumes. They even invited some of the audience to come up and do the dance with them. Gem was never one to shy away from an opportunity to perform and she did a great job! This was at the Spruce Tree ruin.

TM went with my dad and the big kids to the Palace ruins. It was a huge site with several of these skinny steps and wooden ladders. They learned a lot about the life of the Pueblo and made some great memories.
